the firefighter outfit

I referenced it in yesterdays post...but for some reason the picture would not download. ( This is the fireman outfit from Diego and Rio's house)

Plus I got nothin for today.

I usually keep my blog focused on my boys and not at on what is going on in the world. But against my better judgement I am going to make this one small exception. I watched Good Morning America today. They had a piece on "The American family" and they talked about breastfeeding in public. All these folks talked about how disgusted and outraged they are over it. I thought the piece had to be slanted. I went on the message boards at www.abcnews.com and I was in SHOCK! Most people talking about how disgusting it is. People even comparing it to "taking a dump" in public. I mean...are you kidding? I am a fairly easy going person.. you want to nurse then nurse...you want to formula feed... so be it...whatever works for mom and baby. I really think a lot of parenting is this way... live and let live.... BUT to say how disgusting this is just amazes me! Also Congrats to Babytalk to be the first magazine to show a nursing baby on this months cover. I just don't get what the big deal is and I really DO NOT get why naked women can be everywhere but God Forbid someone is nursing a baby?? Maybe if our young boys were exposed more to the natural use of the woman's body they would have more respect for women as a whole.

OKAY, stepping down from soapbox, that one really got under my skin this morning.

Sorry... I will not be making a habit of this behavior.

HOLY COW!!! That really ticks me off too!! Preach on sista!! I absolutely 100% agree with you...especially regarding the whole...women (pretty, skinny ones that is) can be naked all over and exposed in magazines and that's all right, but God forbid a mother who is caring for her child breastfeed in public (covered up, mind you!!!!)!!!! IT'S NATURAL PEOPLE! It's what the female body is made to do, whether you choose to do it or not is your choice and you shouldn't be persecuted for either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you think women did before formula??? Some people have no right to even open their mouths, especially if they have no concept as to what they are speaking about!! OK, sorry....now I'll get off my soapbox. Geesh! That really angers me! K, have a great day!! HAHAHA

P.S. Sorry, I know I said I'd get off my soapbox, but just one more thing....as Tammi said, if we're suppose to be raising morale, respectful children, what are we teaching them when we act/say things like this?? Maybe we could teach our society to be more respectful of the human body instead of saying how disgusting a natural process is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK....done for now!

I can't agree with you more.  A woman here in Annapolis was kicked out of the mall because she was found nursing her child in (of all freaking places) Victoria's Secret.  Needless to say they've lost my business until they can make right.  These people must not have been breastfed themselves as breast milk promotes healthy brain development and anyone with a properly developed brain would not made such outlandish comments about the most beneficial thing you can provide to a newborn next to love and affection.  I'm with you Soapbox mommas!!!  Beth you'll have more to say when the little Miss arrives. xo Liz xo

Okay so I will admit I wasn't breast fed, and I probably wont because it might make me uncomfortable- and I will probably go immediately back to work and I won't have time to pump and all that..plus you all know my nipple situation... but I would never pass judgement on others who do or kick them out of somewhere for it...okay well maybe if the kid was like 5 years old and begging for the boob.

But as a non-mom I will say that it makes me uncomfortable only when I can tell the person breast fedding is uncomfortable. I love women who are just like "this is me, this is my baby, this is my boob- deal with it!"

I would post more comments if it weren't for your damn word verification. AGGG I have gotten it wrong four times! I suck!

Well, I just spent a good half hour reading comments on the ABC website and here is what I feel. It's a lose-lose situation for mothers (I say mom's because even though it is USUALLY a joint decision to breast feed or not, the father gets very little judgement, it all falls on the mom). Anyway, the truth of the matter is that America, overall, is very uneducated on the breast feeding subject. I knew very little about it until I became pregnant and the doctors, nurses, books, everyone...spewed facts and statistics on how good it is for the baby. And it truly is the BEST thing for babies, nutrition wise, and who doesn't want to give their baby the very best? But at some point there was a line drawn in the sand, and there really is no middle ground. You either breast feed or you don't. Those of us who breastfeed constantly feel judged, worry about a boob sighting, worry about offending. Those of us who bottle feed have felt the wrath of judgmental breast fed mothers who assume we are automatically bad mothers already because of our "choice."
New York Times recently came out with an article comparing the dangers of NOT breast feeding to that of smoking and drinking alcohol in the womb. WOW! That's scary and makes you think. If that is really true, this whole country needs to get on board and be supportive of breast feeding mothers. You're uncomfortable seeing a flash of flesh? Okay, it's still relatively new to society to be open about BF in public. But get over it. People on both sides of this topic need to stop being so angry and learn some compassion. Everyone has a right to feed their child...bottle or breast. And because its not against the law (in most places) to BF in public, is SOCIETY that needs to change their attitude and get used to it, not the other way around. I don't like seeing young boys with their pants falling off of them, but that is (or was?) the style, I got used to it. I don't like seeing bikini thongs on the beach. But I get over it. It is sort of liking comparing apples and oranges, but it comes down to a choice. We all have choices and unless my choice is hurting you or against the law, we'll all have to learn to be more compassionate, understanding, and flexible. Sigh.

I agree Sam! It's a personal choice and why can't we just leave people alone unless they are physically hurting others.

Well stated Sam.  I apologize if my post came across as me being a Nazi breast feeder.  I just want to clarify that I support whatever will benefit you, your child and your family and if nursing in not accommodating to your lifestyle than so be it.  The point I was trying to get across is that if one knew the benefits of breast feeding or even attempted educating themselves on the subject I do not think they would be so quick to pass judgement.  I personally would not feel comfortable exposing my bare breast in public, but have no objection to women who do it.  I agree with the 5-year-old situation Keelee, reminds me of a Desperate Housewives episode. Also I don't believe I was breastfed either.. ah, so that explains me, it's not just a blond thing.... Love to all!  Liz
